OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty

OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty

The airport bathroom hummed, a fluorescent symphony to my ears. Not exactly the sterile operating room I’m accustomed to, but needs must when the toddler… well, you know. My daughter, mid-potty-training adventure, decided a porcelain throne was necessary at that exact moment. This is where the OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty, a product I’d approached with cautious optimism, really shone.

I’ve seen a lot of portable potties. Trust me. As a developmental pediatrician, I’ve spent years observing children navigate the often-turbulent waters of toilet independence. Most portable options feel flimsy, like a child’s plaything designed for a child’s plaything, not practical use. The OXO Tot, however, feels different. The solid base and integrated legs, even when extended, provide a reassuring stability – a crucial factor when you’re dealing with a nervous toddler perched precariously. The snap-on, snap-off bag system is also brilliant, preventing potential messes and minimizing the dreaded “clean-up” time.

One of my initial worries involved the seat’s actual dimensions. Would it be too big? Too small? After all, a poorly-fitted potty seat can discourage a child faster than a leaky diaper. Thankfully, the OXO Tot offers a reasonably sized, comfortable surface that’s perfectly suited to younger bottoms. The non-slip feet also deserve a nod, preventing that disconcerting slide that can derail the whole experience. Its primary function, of course, is portability. The compact fold-down design and included carry bag make it incredibly easy to stow in a diaper bag or under the car seat. A godsend, frankly.

It isn’t perfect. The plastic, while robust, does feel a little… well, plasticky. I would prefer a slightly softer material, especially against sensitive skin. The good news is that the material cleans up easily and quickly, so it is easy to manage.

Now, I’ve also looked at the folding potties with the collapsible legs. They’re good, but often a bit more fiddly and prone to collapsing. And truthfully, sometimes you just need something simple, reliable, and quick to set up.

So, where does this leave the potential buyer? If you’re a parent embarking on the potty-training journey, and you anticipate any travel, even just a short trip to grandma’s, then the OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty is a must-have. You might even consider keeping one in your car permanently. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
