Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

The air in the nursery always smells faintly of cedar, thanks to the dresser liners. It’s my fourth time assembling a crib this year, so the scent is a welcome change from the usual paint fumes and frantic energy. The Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1, bathed in that clean, matte white, is a familiar sight. I’ve seen enough of these to know a good build when I see one.
This isn’t my first rodeo with Babyletto; I know their reputation for clean lines and a modern aesthetic is well-deserved. The Hudson, in particular, offers a refreshing simplicity that avoids the clunky look often associated with convertible cribs. Its tapered legs and open design create a lightness that breathes easy in any space. Dimensions-wise, at 53.75” long, it’s pretty standard, but those subtly curved headboard slats? Pure design gold, and they fit comfortably within a variety of nursery sizes.
Conversion is key, here. A crib that can become a toddler bed, and eventually a daybed, isn’t just a cost-saver, it’s a space-saver. The Hudson does the job with relative ease, using the included hardware. It’s a straightforward process, though I’d recommend a second set of hands for maneuvering the side rails during the first conversion. You’ll need the conversion kit (sold separately) for the toddler bed, so don’t be caught short. One important note: the mattress platform adjusts to three different heights, an essential feature for accommodating newborns and preventing escapes as the little one grows.
I’ve always appreciated that Babyletto adheres to the stringent safety standards of the industry. This is important to note: you are getting a crib that has already passed all the required standards. Speaking of standards, here’s a tip: always check the mattress compatibility. The Hudson, like most modern cribs, takes a standard-sized crib mattress (28” x 52”). Don’t go improvising.
Now, a minor caveat: the headboard’s open slat design, while beautiful, could potentially allow small toys to slip through. Not a dealbreaker, however. A quick fix? Just stick a few fabric-covered panels on the inside, preventing anything from falling into the dark abyss.
How does it stack up against competitors? Frankly, the Hudson punches above its weight. It beats out other similar modern-styled cribs in its price range by offering an elegant look. I’ve seen some other brands compromise on build quality for similar aesthetics, and this one feels sturdy.
If you’re a new parent seeking a stylish, safe, and adaptable crib for your little one, the Babyletto Hudson is a solid choice. If, however, you value extra storage space within the crib, you’ll need to opt for a model that provides a drawer or other storage solutions at the cost of additional complexity and weight. But the Hudson is still an excellent choice, so go for it.
